William Wenikread bio
William Wenik is from Short Hills, New Jersey. He is a 2018 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He majored in Military History and Chinese Language. While at West Point, William traveled to Taiwan to study the battle of Kinmen, wrote a thesis on US Marine presence in China, and completed an internship with the Office of the Secretary of Defense. While at the Yenching Academy, William focuses his studies on the cross-strait dynamic and its effect on the diplomatic and military relationship between China and the United States. After completing his studies, William will return to the United States to serve as an Armor officer.

Kameko (Rae) Winbornread bio
Rae Winborn grew up in Durango, Colorado and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and High Honors in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. After Darmouth, she was a Manager at the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) in Washington, D.C., where she was responsible for the China data and research program. During her tenure at EMPEA, Rae produced preeminent market research and reports on Chinese and emerging market private capital and presented her research to both government officials and executive-level leaders in the industry. Through her work, Rae developed a deep interest in private equity’s role in creating social impact, particularly within China, which she hopes to further explore at the Yenching Academy. Prior to her position at EMPEA, she worked at a social enterprise in Hyderabad, India.
Xu Miaoread bio
Miao Xu, majoring in Journalism and minoring in Philosophy, is a graduate from Nanjing University. She was awarded with the honor of Nanjing University’s Person of the Year in 2017. Harboring great passion in mass media, she interned at the Department of Public Service Advertisement in CCTV. During her whole undergraduate career, Miao showed great enthusiasm in cultural contacts and exchanges. Her other academic experiences include exchanges at Fudan University for summer school,and a one-year full scholarship at the Massachusetts Institutes of Technology. She focuses on the situation of education in China. In Nanjing, she volunteered to teach children of migrant workers for half a year. Currently, she is working on her graduation thesis on the problem of China’s non-government funded education. At the Yenching Academy, she pours her energy in the field of Economics and Management. Being able to diminish China’s educational inequality and help innovate China’s educational modes has always been her dream.
Elif Yıldırımread bio
Elif Yıldırım completed a Master's degree in Asian Studies at Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey. She graduated from Boston University (BU) with Bachelor's degree in Sociocultural Anthropology. At BU, she took courses on Chinese language, history, anthropology and archaeology. She also enrolled in BU's Study Abroad program at Fudan University in Shanghai. During her 5-month stay there, she improved her Chinese while interning at an NGO, which provides free English education to underprivileged children in China. Her volunteer experiences in China left a deep impression on her, and she developed an increasing interest in NGOs and social work. At Yenching Academy, she works to learn more about the Chinese society, economy, politics and policy-making in order to pursue her passion in social work, and improve her Chinese language skills to reach a level of fluency.
Angela Zhangread bio
A Southern California native, Angela Zhang graduated from Stanford University in 2016 with a B.A. in International Relations and concentrations in East Asia and International Security. Following graduation, she spent 2 years working for Google’s Legal Department in San Francisco. Angela is pursuing the Law & Society track at the Yenching Academy and aspires to help advance U.S.-China legal cooperation.
Nina Zholudevaread bio
Nina Zholudeva is originally from Samara, Russia. She graduated with distinction from Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a major in International Relations and a minor in Chinese Studies. While an exchange student at Beijing Foreign Studies University, she became curious to understand how China and other countries can strike a balance between economic growth, energy needs and environmental sustainability. She continued to pursue these research interests as a Master’s student in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology at Bocconi University in Italy and intern at Stockholm Environment Institute in Sweden. Most recently, Nina has worked as a Teaching Assistant in Hong Kong and served as a Deputy Director of Research for Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum, finding opportunities for U.S.-Russia cooperation in the energy sector. Inspired by the unprecedented expansion of renewables in China, Nina concentrates on Law and Society at the Yenching Academy and explores how China uses environmental law to shift to clean energy sources.
