Shriyam Gupta grew up in Dehri-on-Sone, a small town in Bihar and spent most of his life at a boarding school in Dehradun. He graduated with a degree in B.A (Hons.) History from the University of Delhi. In college, he worked with refugees in Delhi, which built his interest in policy, human rights, and governance. He has assisted Members of Parliament on issues of environment, communalism, and rural development; and spent close to a year mapping compensation processes for human-wildlife conflict across the country. These experiences built his interest in public administration and institutional reform in India. To pursue this, he spent the last two years consulting with government departments and the judiciary, helping them addresses their operational backlogs. He comes to China and Yenching Academy with an interest in learning about its bureaucratic system and government.
Dev Lewisread bio
Prior to Yenching, Dev Lewis was based in Shanghai as a research and marketing manager at Infosys China and Research affiliate of Digital Asia Hub. He also built a community of China watchers as head of YCW’s Shanghai chapter and member of its global editorial team. Dev’s present focus is on the intersection between technology, business, and policies, especially in China and India. Previously, he spent two years at Gateway House where he looked at foreign policy issues, and built the think tank’s digital media department. Dev grew up in Mumbai, India, and completed his undergraduate studies with a major in International Relations at Roger Williams University in the US. He also studied Chinese at ECNU in Shanghai and Zhengzhou University in Henan. At the Yenching Academy, Dev plans on taking a deep dive into areas such as Law and Society, International Relations, and Economics. He intends to design a thesis paper on artificial intelligence and apply this in what he does next.
Dhanasree Moluguread bio
Dhanasree is an early stage investor at Blume Ventures, a leading VC firm in India, where she has led investments in emerging technologies such as AI, Blockchain, AR/VR. She has worked closely with start-ups and investors in US, UK, China, Singapore and Indonesia. She aims to promote cross-border knowledge transfer through her active contribution on Asia's leading tech media platforms such as YourStory, TechinAsia, etc. She is a graduate of IIT-Bombay, where she became the first female student ever to hold the highest student leadership position in academic affairs and implemented several legacy initiatives. She is also a trained Kuchipudi (an Indian classical dance) dancer and a violinist.
Vivek Anand Pisharodyread bio
Vivek Pisharody is an American who studied Mathematics and Chinese at Cornell University and is interested in development economics, minorities, and Chinese politics. While studying in Kunming, Yunnan, Vivek researched the Jinuo people of southwest China and developed an interest in government policy on ethnic minorities. As a Yenching Scholar, Vivek studies economic and human development among rural and minority populations.
