Nicholas Quah Er Chuanread bio
Nicholas Quah concentrated in History (East Asia) and Comparative Literature (English and Chinese) at Brown University. He is a Singaporean citizen and will join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after graduating, having previously worked for them in ASEAN and the Republic of Korea. He pursues the Literature and Culture concentration at the Yenching Academy, and is interested in making legible the connections between Anglo-European and Asian, especially Chinese, traditions of literary criticism as part of a broader project to understand the conceptual spaces of cultural difference and common humanity. He is also committed to the serious study of Southeast Asia, and believes that an attentive appreciation of the nuanced conditions in East and Southeast Asia is essential to the continued prosperity of the region. In his free time, Nicholas enjoys reading, creative writing, competitive debating, and badminton.
Zi Xiang Tanread bio
Zi Xiang graduated from University of Oxford with a BA (First Class Hons) in Jurisprudence and is currently pursuing a LLM at UC Berkeley, where he focuses on technology law. As a Yenching Scholar, he hopes to acquire a deeper understanding of the burgeoning Chinese tech sector, Beijing’s approach to technology policymaking, and the larger geopolitical implications of emerging technologies. After his studies, he will work for the Singapore government. Like beauty pageant contestants, he is currently dieting and he hopes for world peace in the 21st century.
