Ilari Mäkeläread bio
Ilari Mäkelä is originally from Helsinki, Finland. After high school, Ilari worked two years as a digital marketing entrepreneur before starting his studies in Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Oxford. During his second year, Ilari was one of the two Oxford students to receive a full scholarship from the Viktor & William Fung Foundation to attend the Global Summer Program of Peking University where he studied a course in the neuroscience of cultural differences. Later, Ilari conducted his own dissertation research on the effect of culture on logical reasoning. In 2017, he graduated from Oxford with a First Class. Prior to Yenching, Ilari worked as a classroom teacher and an e-learning designer. His vision is to build global understanding through education in comparative philosophy. At the Yenching Academy, Ilari pursues this vision by concentrating in Chinese Philosophy and Religion.
