Wesley grew up in Auckland, New Zealand where he attended The University of Auckland completing two bachelor degrees simultaneously, majoring in three separate subject areas – Computer Science, Finance, and Economics. After representing The University of Auckland as an undergraduate in an international research conference at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2014, he developed a strong interest in the economic development of China and the Chinese language. Throughout the remainder of his time as an undergraduate and his involvement with numerous New Zealand-China business organisations, he received several government scholarships allowing him opportunities to study at the Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan and Fudan University in Shanghai. While studying at Peking University, he hopes to use his experiences along with his technical and financial knowledge to research China’s rapid advancements in the smartphone-payments economy and how this technology can be used to tackle issues we face in the 21st century.
