Paulo Piá de Andraderead bio
Paulo Piá de Andrade studied Law at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), in his hometown Curitiba in Brazil. While concentrating on International and Human Rights Law, his broad academic interests have also led him to attend classes on Linguistics, Cultural Anthropology and Political Science. By the same token, he undertook an exchange semester at Universität Leipzig, where he examined Walter Benjamin’s theory of art and first came into contact with China Studies. Ever since held in thrall to the daunting complexity of the Chinese language and the richness of its culture, Paulo’s personal interest in China gained professional dimension as he decided to pursue his long-held aspiration of entering the Brazilian Diplomatic Service. Paulo is confident that the concentration on Politics and International Relations at the Yenching Academy will provide him the means to fulfil his professional aim of one day contributing to the strengthening of relations between Brazil and China.
Federico Verlyread bio
Federico Verly holds a degree in International Relations with an Honor Diploma from the Universidad del Salvador and a Masters in National Defence from the Universidad de la Defensa in Argentina. While he was studying his Masters, he developed a great interest in China and the global power configuration, analyzing specifically dynamics in the South China Sea. He worked in the Direction of International Relations of the Secretariat of Comprehensive Policies on Drugs of the Argentine Nation. He was also professor at the Universidad del Salvador of the Seminar History of International Relations and in the Chairs of Introduction of International Relations and Systematic of International Relations. He concentrates in the Politics and International Relations Program in order to acquire a comprehensive look about the Chinese view of the world and determine changes in the power structure.
