Jason Arterburn completed his BA in economics and identity & security at the University of Alabama, graduating as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and as the top male student in his class. As an undergraduate, Jason studied Mandarin intensively in China for a calendar year on a Critical Language Scholarship and David L. Boren Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State and National Security Education Program, respectively. He has worked on U.S.-China policy in various capacities at the Asia Program at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, in the Office of Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and (..) at the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy, where he assisted Dr. Tong Zhao with research on nonproliferation and global security issues. Jason also sits on the Board of Directors for Birmingham to Beijing, a 501(c)(3) organization that raises more than $50,000 annually to provide high-achieving students at low-income high schools in Alabama with Mandarin language classes and a fully-funded study tour in China. He is also a 2014 Harry S. Truman Scholar.
